Reworked Bridge Abutment161 viewsThe original WM span over the highway was the first part of the Connellsville sub to be removed when the line was taken out of service. Actually it was before it was taken out of service... A farewell excursion had to be diverted to the B&O for most of the trip because the span was taken out. It's a good study of concrete leaching, anyway.
Hiking Bridge137 viewsThe piers are remnants of the WM, but the bridge is recent addition. The original bridge was removed due to a low clearance issue over the state road. The geniuses at the hikey bikey trail decided the remaining original spans weren't "pretty" enough, so they spent a gazillion tax dollars to have it removed and replaced with this wispy little truss bridge.
Looking down river128 viewsFrom the high bridge. CSX (B&O) right of way is in the distance on the right side of the valley.
High Bridge at Ohiopyle141 viewsAs with the whole Connellsville Sub, the infrastructure was in place to double track the line. In the early days the traffic never materialized to require that, and by the time volume had grown to that point, CTC was in place, making the single track more than adequate. This is also a good look at the plate girders, and the concrete piers.

The railings and deck have all been added as part of the rail-trail project.

Right of Way looking East126 viewsI'm about halfway between the two Ohiopyle bridges, looking back toward the depot. The path that splits away to the left is the right of way of the former connection to the B&O, which is about a hundred yards away to the left.
Historic Marker223 viewsThis is what used to be here. Personally, I don't see what was wrong with it!
The Re-Purposed Ohiopyle Depot139 views2-15-08. Now a vistor center along the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail.
The Hikey Bikey Bridge220 viewsGoing west, this was the first crossing of the Youghiougheny at Ohiopyle. The original steel girder plate bridge was removed and replaced with this. I suppose it's got it's good points, but I don't think it would hold up very well under a brace of SD-40's...
Station Sign140 viewsNot exactly in the WM sign, but it beats a pile of ashes, which was Chessie's usual M.O.
Ohiopyle Depot160 viewsProbably the most familiar view of the station. It would be nicer if there were tracks and F units, use your imagination.
